The
Men and Family Relationships Program provides counselling, group
and community programs, for and about men, aimed at strengthening
family relationships and enhancing connections to the community.
Counselling
A counselling service is open to all men who are interested in working
through issues in their relationships such as: communication skills,
self-esteem, parenting and step-parenting, roles and responsibilities
in partner relationships, emotional awareness (development and control),
separation, family violence and behaviour change.
Where appropriate couple counselling is also available. Counselling
services may also be provided outside standard business hours if
required.
Group Programs
A number of Group Programs operate that are open to members of the
community.
The ‘Men Choosing Solutions to Violence Program’ is
a 10-week Behaviour Change Program for men who want to change their
abusive behaviour. The program offers non-violent options in the
ways men can relate to their partner, children and family members.
The ‘Men’s Group’ runs on one weeknight evening
providing a forum for discussion of issues as nominated of importance
to the membership. The group provides peer support, information,
education and mentoring for men.
The ‘Band’ provides an opportunity for men to relax
together while creating music whilst the ‘Walking Group’
is another opportunity for men to relax and talk as they walk.
Community Education
Men and Family Relationships team members are available to provide
information and consultation services to the sector and broader
community.
The team participates in conferences, workshops, seminars and other
community forums to provide information on and advocate for, men’s
issues.
Access

the men’s groups or to access individual counselling the Men
and Family Relationships Program can be contacted between 9am –
5pm weekdays on 5278 8122.
There is a nominal fee for the Men Choosing Solutions to Violence
Program – all other programs are free of charge.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Your Rights Will Be Respected
Bethany complies with the Information Privacy Act when handling
all personal information.
Information that you discuss with a worker will be treated in a
confidential manner. If a moral or legal issue arises, where there
may be risk to yourself or others, we are legally obligated to report
this.
The service may be required to write a report. This report will
include relevant information regarding the service staff's observations
and conversations with all parties. All parties will be provided
with a copy of the report.
This Program is approved and funded by the
Commonwealth Department of Family
& Community Services.
