The
Bethany New Parent Infant Network (NEWPIN) offers parents a welcoming
and supportive environment, based on the core values of respect,
support, equality and empathy to assist parents who are experiencing
significant difficulty caring for their child/children.
Offering
structured family support including initial home visits, the program
provides therapeutic group work, developmental and educational opportunities
as well as focusing on strengthening the mother and child relationship
whilst developing parenting skills.
NEWPIN
is a program component of the Bethany Family Support Innovations
Program funded by the Department
of Human Services.
How Does It Work?
The NEWPIN centre is located at Bethany and is a specially built,
friendly home that parents and children can attend to address parenting
issues.
A weekly therapeutic support group provides opportunities to share
life experiences with other parents in safe and supportive environment
whilst your child is cared for in the playroom.
NEWPIN also provides a Personal Development Program focusing on
parent /child relationships and attachment. A range of parent/child
programs operate with creative play activities and workshops on
a range of themes identified by members of the NEWPIN centre.
A 24-hour telephone support network, which is supported by all members,
is also available and regular fortnightly member meetings are held
to discuss ideas and to develop themes for workshops.
NEWPIN also offers one- to- one counselling on a short-term basis
(at a members request)
Members who reside in the Northern Suburbs are also offered transport
to and from NEWPIN. Members of the broader Geelong community are
encouraged to become members but will need to be able to attend
the program independently.
