About Bethany

Our Purpose

We are here to work together to meet the changing needs and aspirations of people in their communities.

Our Impact

We aim to make sustainable change in people’s lives, at each and every stage. Every day we support families and individuals in Geelong and Western Victoria.

Our Stories

Supporting people when they need us most.  Here are some of our stories about how people in our community are navigating life with support from Bethany.

Get involved!

Duluth Model Masterclass

The Duluth Model is a way of thinking about how a community can work together to end domestic violence.

Bethany, together with Barwon Area Integrated Family Violence Committee and Global Rights for Victoria are hosting a very special two-day masterclass with international guest speakers Melissa Scaia, Lori Flohaug and Kay Arola.

Get involved!

Geelong Giving Tree Appeal

The Geelong Giving Tree Appeal has been running for more than 20 years and calls on the generosity of our community to donate to those less fortunate at Christmas time.  All funds raised provide gift cards to local families and individuals who need a little extra support at that time of year to help them enjoy a little Christmas spirit.

Get Involved!

16 Days of Activism

During the 16 Days of Activism, people around the world will unite to raise awareness about gender-based violence, challenge discriminatory attitudes and call for improved laws and services to end violence against women for good.

Get Involved!

Bethany Little Things Appeal

With the rising costs of living, many families are unable to afford many of the little things in life that we take for granted.  Our annual June appeal raises funds to help buy these little experiences for local families.

Get Involved!

Geelong Candlight Vigil

In May each year, together with Safe Steps Victoria and The Sexual Assault and Family Violence Centre, Geelong’s city centre turns purple, as we light a candle to remember women who have died due to family violence.

Get Involved!

Surf Coast Century

This September, we’re working with the Surf Coast Century to raise vital funds to end family violence. And, with your help, together we can change the story. Can you make your run count?

Excitement is building at BCYF Barwon Child, Youth & Family and Bethany as we officially come together as one merged organisation on 1 April, 2023.

As two like-minded not-for-profit organisations, we have supported our local community for more than 150 years. Collectively, this new chapter will see us offer 300 years of expertise and experience to those who need it most.

As we join forces, support for all members of our community will continue as normal, and for those receiving services from either organisation, nothing will change. We are still here for anyone at any time, working together to strengthen our community.

Under our new name (which we’ll share with you shortly), our network of kindergartens and tailored programs will grow, however our commitment to providing exceptional services will remain the same. From birth to adulthood, we are here every step of the way to help create a fair, safe and inclusive community where everyone can thrive.

Building a new life in Geelong

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sally and her infant son James were experiencing the frightening intensity of a violent relationship and a lockdown.

Through ongoing emotional and mental health supports provided by Bethany, they are now well equipped and supported to make a fresh start in their new city.

“It’s been really great to have someone to talk to and debrief. I was really frazzled at the beginning of COVID and the help to refocus on different areas of our life that we could work on, has been great.”

“Help provided, someone to talk to. Someone who listens to me. Someone who will listen even if they can’t help. They are always trying.”

My client stated that after seven sessions she is now not experiencing panic attacks and her anxiety is not impacting on her functioning anymore.  She stated she can now apply the skills and overcome any anxiety quickly and move forward

“I only hope more women can find you and reach out to you for support
