Geelong Candlelight Vigil

In early May each year, people across Australia light a candle to honour and remember the women and children who have died as a result of domestic and family violence. On average in Australia, each week a woman is killed at the hands of a current or former partner.

Bethany Community Support and The Sexual Assault & Family Violence Centre, in partnership with the City of Greater Geelong light up community areas purple across Geelong as part of Safe Steps’ Candlelight Vigil.

In 2022, other participating businesses included:

  • Deakin University
  • Geelong Broadcasters
  • Geelong Arts Centre
  • Orange Door
  • Village Cinemas
  • Salvation Army
  • Barwon Health
  • Victorian Police
  • Villawood

We invite our Geelong community to join us and other Victorians as we light a candle to reflect or in remembrance of those who have lost their life due to family violence.

The Candlelight Vigil provides a space for people to come together to grieve for them, share messages of hope, and ensure that we never forget the people behind the statistics.

If you are a local business who would like to participate in the vigil in 2023, by turning your building purple, please contact us at events@bethany.org.au
