Connect Up – School Readiness

We support an inclusive environment where people of all genders and ages, people living with a disability, First Nations people and people from LGBTI and CALD communities feel empowered to share their experiences and ideas; knowing that these will be valued and respected. Our staff are well-informed and sensitive to lived experiences. They understand the complexities and challenges people face when accessing services. We are committed to working with you to understand your needs.

Bethany has a strong and reputable history working with vulnerable children and families, particularly within early-learning settings. In 2018, BCS developed an early intervention program, based in kindergartens and primary schools, to identify and support under resourced and isolated families with young children (2-6 years).

This innovative program – Connect Up – works with educators to assist families to reduce their vulnerabilities, thus improving children’s development through supporting their wellbeing, access and inclusion into kindergartens. The program to date has demonstrated significant success in the local locations that it has been operating, and through the School Readiness Funding, there is an opportunity to provide this program more broadly to kindergartens across Victoria.

This place-based model co-locates a Connect Up Worker into local kindergartens to provide an accessible and integrated support service for families whilst in a familiar and safe environment. The program champions collaborative partnerships and respectful relationships, to build the capacity of educators to impact the lives of families attending their kindergartens positively and ultimately improve the educational and growth outcomes for children.

As part of the School Readiness Program, Connect Up is available to be implemented in kindergartens for a minimum of two terms (time fraction to be negotiated with kindergarten). Key service activities provided by the Connect Up Workers include:

  • Family wellbeing consultations with educators
  • Individual outreach home visiting
  • Family support and intervention
  • Supported playgroup connections to complement kindergarten participation and skill development
  • Facilitation of parenting group work programs
  • Transitional support.
